The Nines are one of a very few reliable power pop artists
who've produced consistently great music since 1998. They
clearly fall in the McCartney/XTC/Ben
Folds realm, but the band has its own unique sound and a
solid command of melodies and minor chord shifts. So, as we await the release of Paul McCartney’s
“lockdown” album, “McCartney III”, along comes a similar, one-man project, from
north of the border. The Nines (Steve
Eggers) are back with a DIY effort that, at times, out-McCartneys Sir Paul,
with a terrific release that, in our opinion, just might be one of their
best! In true DIY fashion, Steve sings
and plays all of the instruments on this gentle, ultra-melodic “Sunday Morning”-kind-of-pop
outing that’s sure to please McCartney fans as well as longtime Nines fans. “Steve Eggers consistently delivers unique,
perfectly crafted pop songs, and when it’s just himself, and at his simplest is
when his true genius for writing melodies comes through.” – HooksandHarmony.com “ If I had my way, stuff like Steve
Egger’s music would get some hearings on the radio. It’s always got some great melodies,
harmonies and riffs.” – IsItAnyGood.net “Eggers
is one of the most underrated singer/song-writers of the rock era. He knows how
to construct, play and finally, record a song. He's been doing it for a long
time and he's been doing it right since the first day he started. His songs are typically subtle and sunny, mid-tempo, and joyfully executed. Instrumentation
aside, he has one of the best voices in the business. Clear, but not too clean, and with a nod to
the UK rock past, has a slight underlying British sound to it.” – D. Patric GREAT!!
