Juan Antonio Ross, a multi-instrumentalist musician,
composer, arranger, and producer is based in Murcia, Spain. He began his career in the 80s as a drummer,
composing and singing. But it was when
he started his solo career, back in 1992, under the name ROSS, when he managed
to excite the Spanish independent scene of the 90s. A few years ago
a song came to my ears that literally blew my mind, I had heard Rosss song Supersonic
Spacewalk and I couldnt wait until I had the album in my hands. It looked like a hybrid between John Lennon
and Jeff Lynne. Today we are at another
time, I am twice as old and the music industry has changed dramatically, but
the spell is still intact. If there are new Ross songs, I will be behind them,
and luckily a few days ago his new collection of songs fell into my hands
again, and it is majestic. Interstellar
continues to maintain the same virtues as his previous works, the results accentuated
by a musical maturity that reinforces the author's virtues, the album is to be
enjoyed with ease. Since it does not
contain any fat, the songs take advantage of everything. I have to say that now I see many more
influences than I saw 20 years ago, there are arrangements that lead me to the
Prince of Around The World In A Day, acoustic moments that evoke the Twelve Dreams
Of The Doctor Sardonicus by Spirit, echoes of Pete Dello, Nick Lowe, along
with hints of the best power pop close to Fountains Of Wayne and Matthew Sweet,
of course above all a very Beatle-ish atmosphere reigns everywhere making it very
difficult to highlight any song over the rest. Opener Look the seems especially stimulating
to me, the Lennon-like piano of the title track that also reminds me in some
way of the best Pink Floyd of the early 70s. Sea Windows and Constellations lead me
directly to 200as Rossland, for me one of the great treasures to be
discovered of popular music, and I'm not just talking about Spain. Perhaps The
Time and Do It are perfect pop gems.
All songs leading to album closer, intimate acoustic wonder that is My
Girl In A Brand New Home. In short,
another sublime album by a genius who exudes humility and above all a
sensitivity out of the ordinary, a superlative creator and who should always
keep track closely, any music lover with a minimum musical taste will
appreciate and enjoy it, the music has these things and sometimes you have to
dig too much to find treasures like this, a fact I discovered a long time ago
and it wouldn't be good to keep it to myself, right? Daniel Insa Right!
GREAT!!
