Second Dose

Second Dose Quantity in Basket: None
Price: $11.00
Artist: The Dirty Truckers

Quantity:

The Dirty Truckers got together back in 1999 when songwriter Tom Baker chose to pursue a decidedly American rock n' roots direction. Drawing on kick-ass influences such as Cheap Trick, Steve Earle, and The Replacements, the Dirty Truckers rock hard and have a good time doing it.  Landing somewhere between Lucero and the Faces, “Second Dose” is a cross-cutting mix of straight up rockers, garage-punk covers (The Lyre’s “Help You Ann”, Nick Lowe’s “Ragin’ Eyes” and The Replacements’ “Sixteen Blue”), and soul searching ballads. This is the next chapter in the bands cross-country rock odyssey, proving that these Truckers are still true originals.  "Think of the passionate storytelling of Steve Earle, the reckless abandon of The Replacements, the cheeky wink of the Faces, the power pop sensibilities of the Raspberries, the shit-kicking prowess of The Georgia Satellites, and the heartfelt pleas of Ryan Adams or Jesse Malin.  Now, that’s one hell of a melting pot… and that’s The Dirty Truckers!" - Mass Movement Magazine.  They paint a picture of a dusty parking lot with beer and a dimply lit bar room where a band is knocking out some sweet music – loudly!  From the first flurry of overdriven chords on ‘Little Mine’ you know what’s coming down - straight unfussy rock and roll following a long linage of bands and artists from all over the globe who just kicked it from the Keith Richards overdriven chord book.  They remind me of The Georgia Satellites and Izzy Stradlin’s Ju Ju Hounds with a bit of Kevin Kinney thrown in for good measure.  Throwing in some big fat sweeping acoustic guitars for good measure on ‘Back To Back’ it adds a different flavour to the pot whilst maintaining the high standards.  A couple of choice covers like the awesome ‘Sixteen Blue’ by Paul Westerberg and to top off this great record is Nick Lowes ‘Raging Eyes’, a great tip of the hat to two clear and big influences on Baker and his direction in this business.” – RPMOnline.com  GREAT!!
